Our Ohio Works Test Floor was spinning up early this morning for this 4500 kVA, 4160 volt, 8-pole medium-speed engine generator's overspeed test. We couple this unit to a DC motor driver, run a full field heat run by bringing the rotor to an operating temperature, then remove excitation and increase the speed up to 1200 RPM for the complete overspeed test. Overspeed testing is performed periodically to ensure that the system response time is adequate in relation to the customer's application needs.
